PEHALE JO MOHABBAT SE INKAAR KIYA HOTA
Pahale jo mohabbat se inkaar kiyaa hotaa
Yoon hamako na duniya se bezaar kiyaa hotaa
Ab tere sivaa koi aankhon mein nahin rahataa
Do roz to paradon mein gulazaar kiyaa hotaa
Pahale jo mohabbat se -
Maaloom agar hotaa anjaam mohabbat ka
Na dil hi diyaa hotaa na pyaar kiyaa hotaa
Pahale jo mohabbat se ...
Main teri hoon main teri, kaanon mere kahanaa
Aur bhaag ke duniya se aankhon mein meri rahanaa
Itanaa jo samajhate ham, chupake se tera (?)
Na dil hi diyaa hotaa na

Miscellaneous Info - Amongst Hindi cinemas most
venerated figures, Dinanath Madhok is credited with easing film lyrics
of their literary leanings. His songs, whether in
Tansen, Rattan, or
Bhakta Surdas,
are remarkable for their simple yet deeply moving lyrics. He also
gained recognition as a writer for films, and directed several features.
Born in Karnal (now in Haryana), Madhok completed his education in
the united Punjab of pre-independence India. He began his career as an
actor with Calcutta’s New Theatres but soon moved to Bombay as a
scriptwriter. Working first with Sagar Film Company and later with
Ranjit Movietone, he wrote stories, screenplays and dialogues for some
of the early Hindi talkies. He also directed such features as
Baghdad Ka Chor, Shama Parwana, and
Mirza Sahiban.
But it was as a lyricist that Madhok found greatest success. He had an early hit with the score of the 1932 feature
Radhe Shyam. He followed this up with a series of silver jubilee hits in the early 1940s, including
Holi, Pagal, and
Kanoon.
In 1943 came one of Madhok’s most challenging assignments: writing the songs for the musical
Tansen. Teaming up with co-lyricist Pandit Indra Chandra, he gave the film such befitting masterpieces as
Ho dukhia jiyara and
Diya jalao jagmag.
Tansen was followed by
Rattan, which featured the unforgettable
Akhiyan mila ke jiya bharma ke and
Aai Diwali aai Diwali, both sung by Zohrabai Ambalewali. Incidentally, the films story was co-written by Madhok and director R.S. Choudhury.
Madhok continued to work well into the 1960s, composing over 2,000 songs in all.
He is also credited with giving music director Naushad his first film,
Prem Nagar, as well as his breakthrough film,
Rattan. (Source – Encyclopedia of Hindi Cinema)
