Description

Tired of poverty, Noshu takes to black-marketing. Soon, he realises that his act has hurt everyone around him, including his brother and his girl. Although he tries to make amends, it may be too late.

    Storyline

    Bombay-based Noshu Sharma, who lives an impoverished lifestyle with his brother, Bonni, and his wife, Mina, is employed as a Journalist with a loss-bearing publication 'Dharti'. He does not get paid for months and is totally dependent on Bonni, who works as a school-teacher. Noshu is attracted to Mala, who also lives a poor lifestyle along with her much younger brother, Monu. In order to accumulate wealth quickly he borrows Rs.1000/- from Bonni, who, in turn had stolen it from his employer, and invests it with a black-marketeer-hotelier, Rambabu. Shortly thereafter his investment returns him Rs.5000/- and he is not only able to return the loan but is able to live a better lifestyle. Unhappy with this success, he tries his hand at blackmail and extortion and gets even more wealthy. When he is told that Rambabu and he may be exposed by the media - they get together with others in the group and, in the midst of an epidemic, hire a contract killer to kill the journalist responsible for ... Written by rAjOo (gunwanti@hotmail.com)

    This is one of Dilip Kumar's most sophisticated film which oddly failed to find favour with the critics.The black market is presented in a very subtle way and the story-line is impressive.Dilip Kumar's acting is a tour-de-force,especially the ending confession at the police station with the ticking of the wall-clock!Ramesh Thapur,Anwar Hussain and Meena Kumari also give good performances.The song 'sham-e-gham ki kassam'memorable.The script and direction are splendid.It is a mystery why Zia Sarhadi did not made more films.Variations on this theme have been countless but none can match Sarhadi's subtlety.Altogether a gem of a movie.A real film noir of the Indian Screen.
