About Rameshwari
Talluri Rameshwari (also known as Rameshwari) is an Indian actress. She was born and raised in Andhra Pradesh and spent her childhood in Kakinada. She is the younger of two sisters and has no brothers. Her elder sister's name is Krishna Kumari. She also acted in one of the Telugu movies. They used to live in Munsiff street, near 2-Town police station, Surya rao peta, Kakinada. She studied 1st standard to 5th standard in City Aided Elementary School. She studied from 6th to 10th standard in Municipal Girl's High School, Temple street. During that time they shifted their residence to 50 buildings area, Kakinada. She used to be so beautiful in her childhood as well as in her adolescence, resembling the veteran Hindi actress Rajshree ( V. Shantaram's daughter). She grew up speaking Telugu. She attended and graduated from FTII in 1975. She became very popular and still remains popular for her two hit Hindi films: Dulhan Wahi Jo Piya Man Bhaye (1977) and Aasha (1980), the latter earned her a Filmfare Nomination as Best Supporting Actress. She played the most loved character Seetalu, in the hit film Seetamalakshmi (1978) directed by K.Vishwanath for which she received the Nandi Award for Best actress. Her credits include several other movies include Sunayana, Mera Rakshak, Sharda and others. She also worked in several films in other languages (Malayalam, Kannada, Bengali, Oriya, Bhojpuri). She is not a career savvy individual and never really pushed hard to reach her potential. She is very close and remains close to her family. She married her FTII class mate and pal, Punjabi actor-producer, Deepak Seth and has two sons Bhaskara Pratap Seth and Surya Prem Seth. She took a sabbatical from acting to raise her children, but recently returned to acting in films, playing mature roles. She and her husband produced a Hindi film titled "Hun Farishte Nahin" (1988) and a Punjabi film titled Mein tuun assin tussin (2007) based on the Shakespeare play The Comedy of Errors. Lately she has been working in television series. Wealthy businessman, Harkishan, lives in a palatial house, with his womanizing and alcoholic grandson, Prem. He would like Prem to get married, settle down, and look after the business, but Prem refuses to do so, unless and until he is permitted to wed his girlfriend, Rita. Harkishan reluctantly agrees and wants to set a date for the marriage. Before that could happen Harkishan's health fails and he suffers a heart attack. Fearing that he is not going to live long enough, he asks Prem to introduce him to his bride-to-be. Prem accordingly brings Rita home, where she is welcomed by everyone. Harkishan approves of her instantly, she begins to look after him, he starts to recover, and eventually ends up entrusting her with the keys to the household, as well as to the safe. What Harkishan does not know is that Rita is not who she claims to be, but is, in fact, a street florist named Kammo. A simple nice movie that you can/should watch with your family.I watched this movie in May 1979 when it was still in theaters. Since then I have watched it on VHS and recently on DVD. I loved the movie then and still love it. Story: Unlike movies of that era, this movie was well focused on the main theme. I liked the fact that the movie did not indulge into extreme emotional drama, didn't have characters shouting, crying. There were no goondas or fight scenes as they would have been totally inappropriate for this movie. The storyline was simple, clean, and well strung story, which made this into a very likable and enjoyable film. This was not a surprise as it was a Rajashri production that has given some really nice and memorable movies. Songs: Ravindra Jain's music excels with the most memorable song 'Lekar aye ho hume'. Acting: Rameshwari did fabulous acting. Prem Kishan was not bad, but did not succeed after this movie. Madan Puri was in a different role; not as a villain but likable grandpa. The chronology of the posting of the songs makes for an interesting reading. After the start of this blog, I have been to five different places viz Jabalpur, Nagpur, Bilaspur, Izatnagar (Bareilly) and Gorakhpur, in that order. First two songs were covered during 2009 when I was in Jabalpur. The next two songs wwere covered in 2015. First of them was discussed when I was at Bilaspur. Next was discussed when I had gone to Izatnagar (Bareilly). The last three songs from the movie have been discussed while I am based at Gorakhpur. So my stay at Nagpur was the only period for the blog that did not see any song from the movie getting discussed.
I have fond memories of misusing my newfound freedom, using that to bunk college classes and watching movies. I watched this movie five times, that is how much I liked the movie. I was not alone. This movie had a longer run in Ranchi (where I was based those days ) than Sholay.
The heroine Rameshwari was the star attraction of the movie. nfortunately she could not capitalise on this dream beginning to her career and she fell by the wayside soon thereafter.
The music of the movie served as the Pied Piper that attracted me to the movie hall repeatedly.
As noted earlier, the movie had eight songs in it. All songs were nice to listen to. The songs that were discussed in the earlier days of the blog were the most popular songs from the movie.
Here is the eighth and final song from "Dulhan Wahi Jo Piya Man Bhaaye"(1977) to appear in the blog. The song is sung by Hemlata. Ravondra Jain is the lyricist as well as music director. Only the audio of the song seems to be available online. I had watched the movie and I recall this dukhiyaari song being lip synced by Rameshwari in the movie. So this song was very much there in the movie.
