The Usual.. In Usual Way Too !
Nothing new if you're
familiar with that phase of the Indian cinema so its highly eminent
commercial formulas. It was a good era, at least compared to their
movies nowadays which are mostly stolen American ones ! Though, (Gunahon
Ka Faisla) is one of its very average examples.
First of all, everything didn't hit a good originality for itself; for instance, situation like forcing the female lead to dance over a mountain in front of her enchained lover boy for the evil guys' pastime was identical copy of another scene in Sholay (1975), and so on. Let alone how (Desai)'s super hit Amar Akbar Anthony (1977) left its massive influence whereas the "lost and found" theme, that distinguished it, is here, and in all the era's flicks as well, yet this time with a record number : 3 girls and one man ! They, naturally, got to be lost in the first 10 minutes to be found in the last 10 minutes. But sorry, it's not by any chance a girlie version of (Amar Akbar Anthony) or even close ! And how it could be Indian without a bloody revenge story where the good "founded" guys fight the evil ones who were the reason of separation (and additional crimes as well !), however with nothing slightly creative or catchy about it this round.
Unfortunately, the common exaggerations looked so unacceptable unlike other more harmonious works of the same kind at the moment. I even think that it could have worked as great comedy itself since it allowed many weak points to be visible, missing the smart action, comedy, musical numbers, or even the stars' glamour to hide them as usual (I loved couple of lines only !).
Speaking of weakness, I've had a long hard time trying to understand who was the daughter of who ? Basically, the story-lines of the lost kids used to be complicated and well-made, but here they're dull and confusing. Furthermore, review what could provoke cleverly : 2 twin sisters met accidentally and no one of them ever asked "Where did I see that face before ?!!", the quartet of badness do nothing but being together "standing" in some palace !, the lead (Chunky Pandey) carries alarm clock with him always before threatening his enemies; that was comic in the wrong place !, or how he loved the dancer so rapidly ? Or how the pimp came to the mountain in the climactic sequence for nothing else what that lousy script needed : All the bad guys must be eliminated at the end so the audience leave their seats happy, and many more. This script led the whole thing intending more than achieving. So, the holes were bigger this time without much to hide them also, therefore the enjoyment was the first victim to fall down.
The whole cast looked pathetic whether with poor performance and charisma (like Chunky Pandey) or badly used (like Prem Chopra and Shatrughan Sinha). Even the adorable, most charismatic, (Pran) was wasted with too dumb scenes, being outwardly as some Mexican rebel from old cowboy movie, yet he is still the best of what this movie can present.
The most remarkable thing was the absence of the police or any governmental authority. Simply the movie created a world where fairness is made only by the hands of the wronged poor people if they collaborated, be armed, and be as violent as their rich enemies (remember the many capital punishments at the end).
Director (Shibu Mitra) made ordinary job out of this script, managing to make it watchable anyway. But nothing can deny that it is a hasty production which maybe all of its makers did it in limited spare time they had. Vis-a-vis the era's towering flicks with similar plot, this movie is the fast teaser of them. Generally, it is a clear case for Indian short Masala with all the senses of the word "short", not "Masala" !

jo samjhe to hakikat hai na samjho to kahani hai
jawani me jawani ke maze lena jawani hai
jo samjhe to hakikat hai na samjho to kahani hai
sama jawani ki jab se jali hai tum me
rangin lagta hai sara jaha
har sans jalti hai har ang jalta hai

jawani me hai wo garmi ke shola pani pani
jawani me hai wo garmi ke shola pani pani
jawani me jawani ke maze lena jawani hai
jo smjhe to hakikat hai na smjho to kahani hai
ye umar jeene ki je bhar yaha je le
jeene ka ye mauka phir aaye na
chadati jawani me manwa ne kar dheele
tujhko kisi ka kya darr yaha
jo darr jaye wo mar jaye

jo darr jaye wo mar jaye
kahawat ye purani hai
awani me jawani ke maze lena jawani hai
jo samjhe to hakikat hai na samjho to kahani hai
roke hun ruke na bandhe bandhi na jo

apni jawani me dil ko jo le dhube
ye kyun si daria tufani hai
ye mana hai umar chhoti magar kitni suhani hai
