Veerta is an Indian film directed by Shibu Mitra and released in 1993. The movie stars Prosenjit Chatterjee, Sunny Deol, Jayaprada, Shantipriya, Shakti Kapoor, Prem Chopra and Neena Gupta.
After many years Sunderlal and Raghuveer become restless and desperate to kill Balwant Roy. They lock up Uma (Neena Gupta) in a cell. Now young Munna returns home and takes charge of the entire business. Sunderlal informs Munna that his sister Uma is very much ailing and has gone to U.S.A for treatment. Munna calls his childhood friend Mangal and appoints him as the new managing director of his business. Here Mangal meets Shalu (Jaya Prada) who is daughter of another industrialist. Jay Prakash (Satyen Kappu) in her childhood, Shalu's marriage was fixed with Munna. But now Shalu falls in love with Mangal and he too accepts her love. Munna does not mind it, because he himself is in love with a village girl Maina (Shanti Priya) from his childhood days.
Sunderlal and Raghuveer plot many ideas to finish off Mangal and Munna. Once with the help of Munna's secretary Lili (Aruna Irani) they almost succeed in framing Mangal in a false rape and murder case. A misunderstanding, thus develops between Mangal and Shalu who even agrees to marry Sunderlal's younger son Ranveer (Tej Sapru). Finally Mangal and Munna succeed in identifying the real culprits.

Plot
Balwant Roy (Pradeep Kumar) is a big industrialist. His daughter Uma (Neena Gupta) is married to Sunderlal's (Prem Chopra's) elder son Raghuveer (Shakti Kapoor). Sunderlal is the managing director of Roy Group of Industries. Balwant Roy's only son, Amar—nickname Munna (Prosenjit) loves his sister very much. Sunderlal is a greedy character whose intends to hush up the property of Balwant Roy and kill Munna. He plots a conspiracy to finish off Munna. But a village boy, Mangal (Sunny Deol) saves Munna's life. Now both are living together and Mangal's mother (Seema Deo) feels happy because they love her very much. However, some people recognise Munna and take him back again to his father. Balwant Roy realises that his son's life is in danger and sends Munna to a foreign country along with his trusted employee-friend, Laxman Chacha (Ram Mohan).After many years Sunderlal and Raghuveer become restless and desperate to kill Balwant Roy. Storyline
Multi-millionaire Balwant Rai is a widower who lives with his daughter
Uma and a school going son Amar alias Munna. Since Uma is of
marriage-able age, Balwant decides to get her marry to Sunderlall's son
Raghuveer and they all move in to live with Balwant at his estate. In
order to take cover of Balwant's entire property Sunderlall and
Raghuveer first have him killed, locked up Uma in a den and attempt to
kill Munna who is saved by a village boy named Mangal. Years later
Mangal and Munna have now matured, and Munna has decided to make his
friend Mangal the managing director of the entire Rai group of
industries much to the disappointment of Sunderlall who has all time
been the M.D of Rai industries. All is well until Managal is framed for
the rape and murder of a prostitute and Munna is attacked with a deadly
weapon. It certainly looks like Sunderlall and Raghuveer won't rest
until they usurp the entire Rai's property and do away with all its

one of Sunny's good films that flopped from 1991
Sunny Deol is one of
Bollywood's action heroes but he too has acted in some of the worst
action movies ever. Some of his films did extremely good at the b.o
while others were runaway hits whilst others just flopped. It was some
of those hits like Ghayal(1990), Narsimha(1991), Vishnu Devaa(1991), and
Vishwatma(1992 that gave him the successes he needed in the early
90s.Mainly Ghayal got him that tremendous acclaim his career needed
after the average 1980s period. However, the 90s too proved to be a time
where Deol has his biggest successes whilst his not so successful films
too. 1991 saw the release of many Sunny Deol films from which only
Vishnu Deva, Narsminha succeeded. Films like Yodha,Shankara, and Veerta
flopped. Veerta was one such film that turned out to be a dud for a
Sunny Deol film. The film had the perfect formula for a hit Sunny Deol
film but the film completely failed in parts and got letdown by several
things.
The plot is nothing great, it is about Mangal who comes to the city to visit his best friend. Mangal gets taunted and mocked for his poor English and typical villager style attitude. However, he soon learns the tricks of the city and becomes clever. With the help of his best friend, Mangal gets appointed as a responsible person in the factory. However, after a drastic step to frame Mangal of the murder of a crime he didn't commit, Mangal takes revenge and saves his friend from the villains.
For a change, Deol doesn't only fight and fight without any reason. He provides some decent laughs and uses his clever instincts to trick and trap the villains. After all villagers aren't taken for granted, they too have brains. This is well shown in the film. However, what sucks is the editing again. Some scenes aren't well explained, the tempo of the film is bad in parts and it fails to create the entertainment other films of this type create. Moreover, the film drags and drags for a while until the interval point where the killers make their move.
Direction by Shibu Mitra is decent, he makes a good film with good moments just like his hit film Paap Ki Duniya. If only he handled the film better in certain parts of the film, things would have been better.
Performances are good, Mangal's friend makes a decent performance for a smart and kind friend. Sunny Deol as Mangal carries his innocent but clever village act quite well, his comic scenes are a delight. Jaya Pradha's role is not well edited as it becomes hard to presume who is her hero Mangal or his friend in the second half of the film but she does a good job. Prem Chopra is typecast yet he does a decent job as the cunning villain.
Music is quite average but the Baily O Baily friendship song is quite decent, its catchy for a 90s song too.
On the whole, Veerta is one of those films which were decent but somehow they became flops. Can't believe people liked Narsimha more than this. That was a violent crap film whilst this was a decent film.
