Bad remake
Akshay Kumar and Sunil
Shetty made their debut as a pair of heroes with the hit Waqt Hamara
Hai(1993), they went on to act in super hit Mohra(1994). Sadly, Hum Hain
Bemisaal both of their final releases from 1994 became their leasr
successful film from this decade. Not only did the film flop at the box
office but it got panned by most of the people who reviews the film.
After this they gave an average film with Sapoot(1996) from this decade.
The film tells the typical story of Vijay and Micheal who are good friends since childhood. However, when Micheal's dad is framed for killing Vijay's dad by the main antagonist Tootishah, Vijay and the everyone tells Micheal to leave and their friendship comes to an end. Years later, we are introduced to an elder Micheal(Sunil Shetty) who does a some silly comedy and fights for the rights of the village he belongs in. In the process, he hospitalizes one of the villains from this subplot. The hospitalized politician villain gets his corrupt inspector brother to arrest Micheal. Micheal is severally tortured in prison by corrupt cops and the politician villains' corrupt brother. He is soon released and sees his village burnt by the villains in this subplot who wanted the property. Micheal is persuaded by Tootishah(the main villain) and a henchmen of his to pick up a weapon and avenge the scattering villagers. He goes to the club where the corrupt politician is, he murders him. However, in the process he accidentally shoots in front of a girls eyes blinding her. This girl is one of the heroines and will fall for Micheal later in the film. After this, he is quite regretful for her and feels guilty all the time from now on in the film. Tootishah orders his men to murder Micheal as they want to back stab him. They fail to kill him and Micheal escapes, he only has one goal now, he will kill Tootishah. However, the only person stopping him or chasing him after the murders was Inspector Vijay(Akshay Kumar). Earlier, when Micheal kills the corrupt inspector brother of the politician(from the subplot), Vijay starts chasing him but fails to catch him. Vijay learns who Micheal is and now Vijay will do anything to stop Micheal as in a way Micheal is breaking the law even if he's murdering bad people. Tootishah makes a plan for something and Vijay's love interest(the other heroine) hears everything. Tootishah orders his men to kill the girl but Vijay saves her. After many ongoings and shootouts, Vijay comes to know that Micheal is the same friend of his from childhood, he is about to kill him but Micheal's dad(Pran) comes and also the father from the church comes and tells Vijay the truth. They tell Vijay who is responsible for ruining all their lives. Then the films comes to an end after a long final fight sequence. Micheal ends up dying but his eyes are given to his love and she can finally see at the end.
The movie seems like it has all the elements and ingredients to be an above average typical action film from the 90s but, it actually falls flat. Not only is the narration slightly clichéd but certain scenes are boring and the comedy is irritating. The movie has a promising start but then the comedy drags and then a few promising scenes, however, the comedy again shifts the focus of the film and then the entire main plot of the film drags. The end action scene is like any other action scene from te 90s for a climax but its extremely prolonged.
Action is good in parts but the irrelevant use of violence wasn't required. The action wasn't actually very bad but why the overdose of violence? Music is bad, none of the songs aren't catchy but they fit with the movie. Akshay Kumar repeats his police act and he did it much better in Mohra actually. Sunil Shetty does an OK job but he hams it up in the scene when he is tortured and some other scenes. Madhoo and Shilpa Shirodkar are the heroines. Rami Reddy repeats his villain act. Jagdeep is awful with his silly and annoying comedy which isn't quite funny. The rest provide average support and do what is required.
Direction by Deepak Bahry is awful, he directs a few initial scenes properly after which everything drags and drags. Editing is average, some scenes don't fit and the drag could have been better dealt with.
On the whole, Hum Hain Bemisaal is a bad remake of Magnificent Obsession. It will be remembered as one of the not so good Akshay-Sunil films from the 90s decade.
