Sardar (Hindi: सरदार) is a 1993 Indian biopic on Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, one of India's greatest freedom fighters, directed by Ketan Mehta and written by noted playwright Vijay Tendulkar. The film was screened retrospective on August 12, 2016 at the Independence Day Film Festival jointly presented by the Indian Directorate of Film Festivals and Ministry of Defense, commemorating 70th Indian Independence Day.[1][2]

Plot
The film begins with a young Sardar Patel playing cards with his friends and ridiculing Mahatma Gandhi and his policies to achieve independence. His views change however when he is introduced to Gandhi by his brother and upon listening to a lecture delivered by Gandhi, he joins him in his struggle. Sardar then successfully organises various Satyagrahas throughout Gujarat. The film then moves to the age of the Quit India Movement and India's freedom. Sardar is instrumental in convincing the working committee of the INC and Nehru to accept a proposal for the partition of India when riots break out on the league's call for Direct Action. Sardar realises that not tackling the problem now might result in civil war in the country. Once the partition has been accepted, Sardar then works to get all the princely states to join the Union of India, the film accurately depicts his handling of the problems posed by the princely states of Kashmir, Junnagad and Hyderabad. The film also portrays his differences with Nehru and how they work together after the death of Gandhiji. The film ends with Sardar resting in a village saying that today from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, there is one independent nation.Cast

Storyline
Vallabhai Patel was born in a wealthy Gujarat-based family and initially
did not take part in the freedom struggle, scoffed at Mohandas Gandhi,
and referred to him as a Social Worker. But when Mohandas gave a speech
in Ahmedabad during 1915, Vallabhai changed his mind, decides to immerse
himself in the freedom struggle, and created awareness in the entire
state of Gujarat so much so that he was considered eligible for the
position of the first Prime Minister of an independent India. But when
the Congress Working Committee supported Jawarhal Nehru, Vallabhai bowed
out amidst intense debate on the creation of Pakistan by Mohammad Ali
Jinnah of the Muslim League. While Mohandas was not inclined to endorse
any move to partition India, Mountbatten, the British Viceroy, along
with Jawarharlal, Vallabhai, and others were in favor of partitioning
India and allowing Jinnah to create two Pakistan, one each on the
borders of Rajastan and Bengal respectively, in order to prevent any

Awesome movie...
This movie is a must see to get an idea of what our great leaders sacrificed for independent India and realize what's happening to their dream in 21st century with violence, hatred, racism, and corruption at all time high.
If you think "SARDAR" is brilliant, you're wrong. It's more than that. Ketan Mehta has made a movie that's someway different from many other movies. What's so different? What is so great about "SARDAR"? It's the acting, the real story, the directing, the cinematography, the soundtrack, the sense of humour and the whole rest. In my opinion it's all worth nothing less than a 10 out of 10.
