Sir is a 1993 Bollywood film directed by Mahesh Bhatt starring debutant Atul Agnihotri and Pooja Bhatt in the lead roles with Naseeruddin Shah playing the title role. Paresh Rawal and Gulshan Grover play villainous roles. The film was remade in Telugu as Gangmaster with Rajasekhar.
It was inspired by the film Raaj Kumar starred in, Bulundi.

Plot
Mumbai-based college teacher Amar Verma (Naseeruddin Shah) lives with his wife, Shobha (Soni Razdan), and 6 year old son, Kunal. When a war breaks out between ganglords Veljibhai (Paresh Rawal) and Chhapan Tikli (Gulshan Grover) alias Jimmy, a number of innocent bystanders fall victim, one of whom is Kunal. This devastates the Verma family. Shobha walks out on Amar, who then devotes his life to his students. Many years later, when he finds out that a student, Pooja (Pooja Bhatt), has a problem of stammering, he decides to help her. He finds out that she is the only child of gangster Veljibhai. Amar meets with Veljibhai, discusses the gang-war scenario, then meets with Chhapan Tikli and does the same. Amar gets the gangsters to agree on a truce so that he can take Pooja and the rest of the students on a field trip to Bangalore. Amar will soon find out that neither Veljibhai nor Chhapan Tikli has any intention of keeping any truce. As the two dons engage in a fight to the finish, it seems that Amar may well have jeopardized his own life as well as the lives of Pooja and the other students. An additional complication arises with Pooja falling in love with her classmate Karan (Atul Agnihotri) and wishing to marry him against the wishes of her father.Cast

Storyline
Bombay-based Professor Amar Verma lives a middle-class lifestyle with
his wife, Shobha, and 6 year old son, Kunal. When a gang-war breaks out

students on a field trip to Bangalore. Amar will soon find out that
neither Veljibhai nor Chhapan Tikle have any intention of keeping any
truce - and he may well have jeopardized his, Pooja's, as well as the
lives of his students - as the two gangs set out to kill each other -

Mahesh Bhatt had planned his 1993 gangster drama, Sir, with Sadashiv Amrapurkar playing the main baddie, Chhappan Tikli, and Gulshan Grover as his demented but dangerous younger brother, modeled on a character from The Godfather series. But just three days before the film was to roll, Sadashiv pointed out to Bhatt that in a crowd of 'serious' actors like Naseeruddin Shah, Paresh Rawal and him, a 'commercial' actor like Gulshan stood out and should be replaced. After the success of Sadak and his character Maharani, Sadashiv had begun to feel that Gulshan was not on par with the so-called talent quotient of the rest of the cast,Unaware of this, Gulshan had got himself clicked wearing his son's bermudas and came to Bhatt with the photographs wondering if he'd got the 'look' of his character right. He was told that he had been elevated in the cast and would be playing Chhappan Tikli. The younger mentally challenged brother was now turned into a woman's role and played by Sushmita Mukherjee, Sadashiv Amrapurkar was replaced due to his behavior. See more »Soundtracks

Good Music-Good Acting
Sir is a story about a
professor who makes a shy personality into something lively. The role of
professor is played by veteran Naseeruddin Shah and that shay
personality is none other than Pooja Bhatt. In between this, the
professor also tries to change the mind of two underworld dons, Velji
Bhai and Jimmy but the attempt remains unsuccessful. Again Mahesh Bhatt
(I love you) describing relationships and personalities and characters
and so on, along with something very romantic by Anu Malik. That
romantic thing is music. "Aaj Hum Ne Dil Ka Har Kissa", "Sun Sun Sun
Barsaat Ki Dhun" and "Yeh Ujli Chaandni Jab Hasraton Ko", are worth
listening. The story may look quite boring in the second half for the
viewers. But for me, it was fair.
