Storyline
Three Bollywood-stricken, Calcutta-based slackers, Vijay Verma (Chunky
Pandey), Bingo Nagpurkar (Satish Shah), and Khoka Ganguli (Rakesh Bedi),
board the Howrah-Bombay Mail, to watch a cricket match, and to meet
Mithun Chakraborty. After boarding, the trio consume considerable
alcohol. Vijay introduces himself to two other passengers, C.K. Kadam
(Amol Palekar), and Manjula Saxena (Ritu Parna), as he finds the latter
very attractive. He wants to change his seat to sit next to her, but the
passenger, Pankaj Nigam, occupying it, refuses to leave, leading to a
physical altercation, which ends in Vijay being asked to return to his
seat. During a stopover, Pankaj departs, and when the train resumes its
journey, Mr. Kadam finds Manjula's dead body. The police begin their
investigation, and interrogate Pankaj and Vijay, and not only discover
that Pankaj is not who he claims to be, but there is also a third
unknown suspect. Written by

Good actors in a Poor remake!
I struggled to give a
score of 6/10 to this remake of a Malayalam murder mystery No.20, Madras
Mail ..It had a good premise, some solid actors who are natural
performers like Amol Palekar, Mithun and Sadashiv Amrapurkar... But the
first half is a torture with terrible trio of Satish Shah, Rakesh Bedi
and Chunky Pandey's lame attempts at humour and too many ordinary songs
with an equally ordinary looking leading lady Somy Ali were all
avoidable if the movie was supposed to be a thriller..
The victim Rituparna's strange re-appearance into the train is inexplicable... Javed Jaffrey's role was not fully fleshed out. His motive for revenge against Chunky pandey, reluctance to co-operate with the police ,after the murder of Rituparna sen gupta is not revealed even at the end.. The three wastrels using/misusing Mithun chakravarthy the actor also did not make much sense.. The killer's identity, intentions to murder which are key elements ins a thriller are not powerful or convincing enough.. Not a bad choice if you have nothing to see on a rainy weekend...

At 48, Gautami Tadimalla radiates beauty, is lucent, extraordinarily gorgeous and wears a warm smile bright enough to light up your day. The secret mantra to beauty, she says, is the lust for life. “It’s something that I learnt from my parents. They had a zest for life that kept them youthful and cheerful. Whatever problems they faced, they still had the spirit to see and enjoy life and I am inspired by that.”
After ruling the roost as one of top heroines in Kollywood, Gautami comes across as a humble person. Her entry into cinema was impromptu, she says. “I was pursuing engineering, when I got an opportunity from the film industry. My parents, however, encouraged me to take up cinema. They told me it would be a different career and I went for it. Later, when I did the khakhi for the role of a police officer in Guru Shishyan, I was reminded of how I always wanted to become an officer either in police or in the defence services as many of my family members were in the field.”
“I was -- and still am -- a voracious reader and barely watched two or three movies in a year. Cinema was totally unknown to me,” she recalls. Her first outdoor shooting in Tamil happened in the countryside near Madurai where she shot for the song ‘Asaiyile paathikatti...’.
“I was a modern girl brought up in Bangalore, wearing T-shirts and denims all the time. That was the first time, I actually saw a rural setting and found it interesting to go through the paddy fields and plant saplings. I believe my current interest in organic farming was sowed then on the sets of Enga Ooru Kavalkaran.”
To climb up the ladder in cinema is tough, notes Gautami. “I was a lay person when I started doing films and had to self-learn everything from the scratch. I observed a lot on the sets, fine-tuned my expressions, self-learnt techniques of acting. I took something from everyone, from co-stars and directors to technicians and dance masters and mastered the lighting and dialogue deliveries.” “Many of my fans often cite their favourite scenes on screen, for instance the train sequence in Thevar Magan. “What I really treasure is this recall value of audiences.”
Gautami is a cancer survivor and has been discussing the disease on various forums. She faced cancer at 35 and ever since it has been a long road to recovery for her. “My fight with cancer changed my outlook towards life. I don’t take it for granted any more. Every single day counts and we must live it to the fullest. Making small changes in our daily routine actually adds value to life,” she says. When Gautami was diagnosed, her daughter was just five years old. “She has played a pivotal role in fighting with cancer,” says Gautami, adding, “this is what I have been spreading the word about.”
“I don’t need a stage or audience to talk. I start off even if I get two people to hear and in each of them I see at least a 100 or even 1000 people more,” says Gautami.
According to her, to be able to talk and exchange ideas is the first step to empowerment. She has recently started a radio show, addressing people and motivating them to take life head on. “I get to interact with many kinds of people, especially women on a daily basis. I believe what I share with them brings about small significant changes in their lives. I think, every progress is achieved step-by-step, it could be coming out of an emotional crisis or a disease.”
Through interacting, Gautami says she also gets to learn from others. “When I talk to women, I see them as warriors, more so because they are women. They may undergo the same problems as men, but they always face a lot more challenges. Within their decision-making and life, they are all fighters. I identify with each of them.”
With regard to cancer becoming a common fatal disease these days, Gautami feels much is yet to be done in terms of awareness. “I have come across this unfound fear among women about breast cancer, because of which many forego a test or treatment, thus putting themselves in the risk or danger of letting cancer go unnoticed. The first step is to curb this fear and that’s where talking it out helps.”
“I realised that after I thought life was over, there was life again. It’s with that thought that I and a close circle of friends have started Life Again Foundation,” says Gautami, who now actively works through a network of volunteers and NGOs across cities in helping cancer patients. “Our motto is to lend a helping hand in whichever way possible to cancer fighters. It really takes courage to fight against something which you don’t know whether you will conquer.”
Actor Gautami was in town for a cancer awareness programme organised by Rotary Club of Madurai Malligai.
