The plot is adapted from the Malayalam film Aniyathipraavu. The music was composed by A. R. The soundtrack for the film was composed by A.R.Rahman, who worked with Priyadarshan in his previous film Kabhi Na Kabhi to spawn a critically acclaimed soundtrack. The lyrics were written by Mehboob. Rahman reused most of the songs in the 1999 Tamil film Jodi. The producers of Jodi's 2007 Kannada remake Sajni, bought the rights of the songs and used it in the film.

Plot
Inderjit "Inder" Bansal (Akshaye Khanna) is a very rich young man. Although his parents (Anupam Kher and Moushumi Chatterjee) want him to settle down, he goes to another city to do his MBA and stays with friends. During this time, he meets Pallavi Sinha (Jyothika) and they fall in love. She reciprocates his feelings, but trouble comes in the form of her tyrannical trio of brothers (Paresh Rawal, Tej Sapru and Mohnish Behl) who are over-protective of their little sister and take an irrational dislike to Inder. They show hostility towards Inder and conflicts arise within the households and the couple decides to elope, but afterward realize they miss their families. They decide to return home, relinquishing their feelings, but ultimately their families accept their love, and they are reunited.Cast

Storyline
Inderjit Bansal comes from a wealthy family. His father and mother,
Chandrika, would like him to get married and settle down. But Inderjit
wants to continue post-graduation studies and become an MBA. His parents
permit him to and he gets admitted in college. There he meets with an
attractive young student named Pallavi Sinh and falls head over heels in
love with her. He confides about this matter with friends and together
they assist him to woo her further. This leads to chaos and
confrontation with Pallavi's brother, Inspector Prithvi, who arrests
them, holds them in a lock-up, and beats them; then her second brother,
Vikram, a tough hockey player, who also roughs them up; and when they go
to get their wounds treated they meet Pallavi's third brother, Dr.
Suraj, who surgically injures them even more. They plan to avenge this
humiliation, and do succeed, but Pallavi asks them to stop. The Sinh's
are horrified to learn that Pallavi actually loves the ruffian Inderjit

A Family Affair
This movie is an
entertainer--well, the first half is. The second half drags a bit. The
movie is basically about Inder (Akshaye Khanna) who persuaded his
parents to allow him to go for his masters in college instead of
settling down and getting married. Lo and behold, in college, he falls
desperately in love with Pallavi (newcomer Pallavi). The question is,
does she love him? It turns out that this is rather irrelevant to
Inder--he vows to win her over, but first he must win over her family...
Music by A.R. Rahman is excellent, but two purely musical numbers
included in the tape/CD seem superfluous. Hopefully this movie will
start off Jyothika's career well, though it has the potential of
flopping terribly at the box office. This movie truly depends on the
individual. Happy Viewing!!
