Aarzoo is a Bollywood film released in 1999. The movie directed by Lawrence D'Souza stars Madhuri Dixit, Akshay Kumar, Saif Ali Khan, Amrish Puri, Paresh Rawal and Reema Lagoo. The film was primarily filmed in Mumbai but some scenes were filmed in London and Edinburgh.
However, Pooja has fallen in love with Vijay Khanna (Akshay Kumar), a pilot. Her father, though, is bitterly opposed with their intention of marriage, as he has already promised Amar that he will marry Pooja. After some convincing from Amar and Parvati, Dayashankar succumbs to his daughter's wishes. Amar is heartbroken but puts on a brave face at the engagement. However tragedy strikes when Vijay is killed while piloting a plane.
Pooja goes into depression and finds out she is pregnant with Vijay's child. Her father convinces her to marry Amar, who willingly accepts her and becomes the father to her child. Pooja gives birth to a healthy boy and maintains a friendly relationship with her now-husband, Amar. When Pooja realises that Amar has always loved her, she begins to love him too.
In a twist, it is revealed that Vijay is indeed alive and has come to London to find Pooja. When he sees that Pooja is happily married to Amar, he misunderstands the situation and believes that Amar had planned the accident to kill Vijay so that he could marry Pooja. Vijay sets out for revenge, setting fire to Amar's factories and kidnapping Pooja's son. Pooja is shocked and hurt at seeing that Vijay is still alive. In another twist, Pooja finds out that Vijay's accident and attempted murder was not made by Amar but was in fact, conducted by her own father. Pooja tells Vijay the truth and reveals that the child is his son.
Dayashankar regrets his actions. When Amar's father's killer(Paresh Rawal) holds Vijay's and Pooja's son captive, Vijay and Amar arrive to save him. In the climactic fight, Vijay and Amar, now on good terms, fight off the thugs and are able to save Pooja's child. Vijay feels indebted to Amar for taking care of Pooja in his absence. However, Amar's evil uncle shoots Amar multiple times but Amar protects the child. Dayashankar kills Ammar's uncle. Amar is shot and dies, surrounded by Pooja, Vijay, their son and Pooja's father. Pooja and Vijay are reunited and honour Amar after his death.

Plot
Dayashankar (Amrish Puri) is a wealthy NRI living in London. His daughter Pooja (Madhuri Dixit) is the apple of his eye and his life revolves around her and his wife Parvati (Reema Lagoo). Dayashankar also takes care of his deceased friend's son Amar (Saif Ali Khan). Amar and Pooja have grown up with each other and he has fallen in love with her over time. Studying in Edinburgh, he is overjoyed when he is called to come stay with the family in London. Storyline
Dayashankar has planned the marriage of his daughter, Pooja, with Amar.
However, Pooja falls in love with pilot Vijay Khanna. After convincing
Amar, Dayashankar and her mother, all agree to the marriage of Pooja and
Vijay. Before the marriage Vijay has an accident while flying and is
presumed dead and Pooja is married to Amar. And then Vijay returns to
find out that the accident was actually planned so that Pooja could

Desires gone wrong
Aarzoo is an awful
film. It is terribly made and more terribly written. The entire idea of
the film is one old cliché, and the amateurish dialogues do not really
help to elevate its level. The story follows a typical love triangle
affected from past incidents (blah blah blah...), and the film takes
inspiration from different Hindi films, for instance Sangam. The film
stars Akshay Kumar, Madhuri Dixit and Saif Ali Khan, all of whom get let
down by the poor and overly melodramatic script. I really wanted to see
Kumar and Dixit working together, as they worked before partially in
Yash Chopra's bright musical Dil To Pagal Hai and both were good, but
here - their romance is unconvincing although it started well at the
beginning. I also expected to see Akshay and Saif, who had played
brothers or good friends many times in such entertaining films as Yeh
Dillagi and Main Khiladi Tu Anari. Ironically there was an action scene
in this one in which they fight with some gangsters in a club and you
could here the famous tunes of both these films in the background.
Anyway, all the actors fail here, though Madhuri does do a good job for
the most part. The film's second half is simply unwatchable, and the
final sequences are boring, cheesy and ridiculous. Aarzoo means "Wish",
and I really wish I had not seen this one.
