Dhadkan (English: Heartbeat) is a 2000 Indian romantic drama film, directed by Dharmesh Darshan. It features Suniel Shetty, Shilpa Shetty and Akshay Kumar in the lead roles, while Mahima Chaudhary
makes an extended guest appearance. The film deals with the love
triangle. The film was a critical as well as commercial success and was
the fourth highest-grossing movie of the year. Sunil Shetty won a Filmfare Best Villain Award for his performance.
When Anjali puts forward to her parents the proposal of marrying Dev, she is rebuked and gets an outright refusal. Because her father does not like Dev for his manner. Moreover, her parents have chosen for her a wealthy suitor from Delhi; and the boy is very religious minded. Not wanting to hurt her parents, Anjali finally gives in and marries Ram (Akshay Kumar) who her parents believe will be a perfect match for her.
Ram is a man of great ideals, who believes in giving a rightful place to his wife and respects her sensibilities. Despite this, he is unable to win Anjali's love at first and their marriage remains on the edge. However, after seeing the magnanimity of her husband’s heart in forgiving and accepting her, she realises she has fallen in love with him.
Anjali leads a life of bliss and becomes an ideal wife. But suddenly, at their third wedding anniversary party, Dev returns and reveals his intent of winning Anjali back. Dev is now a wealthy businessman, and Anjali finds herself at a crossroads where she has to fight for her husband with her former love. Anjali is in love with her husband and has no wish to return to her former lover. When she tells him this, he sets out to ruin Ram's business. But the truth wins in the end when Anjali tells Dev she is pregnant with Ram's child. Dev realises his folly and decides to marry his friend and business partner Sheetal Varma (Mahima Chaudhary) who has secretly loved him for a long time.
The music of this film gave the message loud and clear that composer Nadeem-Shravan
are back in a big way as they recreated their magic of the 90's once
again. The composer's worked very hard for 3 years to compose the
soundtrack. The song "Dulhe Ka Sehra" was composed in 1997 and was also
sung by Nusrat Fateh in the same year before his death other songs were
too recorded in 1997-1998 except for the song "Tum Dil Ki Dhadkan Mein"
which was recorded in the year 2000 by Nadeem in London. Songs like 'Dil
Ne Yeh Kaha', Tum Dil Ki Dhadkan Mein' became a legendary love track.
Dulhe Ka Sehra proved to be a popular wedding song of the era. Other
successful songs of the film were Aksar Is Duniya Mein and Na Na Karte
Pyar. The soundtrack was listed on No 2 position in the yearly music
charts. The soundtrack became a big hit among the masses and prices to
be a largely successful soundtrack. According to the Indian trade
website Box Office India, around 45,00,000 albums were sold.[1]

Synopsis

Taran Adarsh wrote of the film:Dhadkan is an intense love story and director Dharmesh Darshan has handled it with the sensitivity it deserves ... Despite the flaws, one has to acknowledge the fact that Dharmesh Darshan succeeds in melting the heart at several places. The entire marriage song-sequence in the initial reels, prior to it the scenes involving Sharmila Tagore, Sunil's portions in the second half, clearly indicate that the director knows his job well. He relies more on close-ups to capture expressions, which is the hallmark of a seasoned technician.Adarsh described Shilpa Shetty as the "life of the enterprise", adding that she "looks good, delivers her lines effectively and emotes with utmost conviction." He also said "Akshay Kumar shows vast improvement as an actor. He is very controlled and handles this difficult role with sincerity." [2] " One of the best movies ever "

Storyline
Wealthy Anjali falls in love with poor Dev, both want to get married,
but Anjali's family objects and instead get her married to equally
wealthy Ram, who lives with his uncaring step-mother and siblings.
Anjali finds out that Ram is not respected, but does not care as she
does not love him. Ram continues to be affectionate toward her and his
family, but Anjali cannot get Dev out of her mind. Then things change,
when Ram decides to assert himself and asks his family to leave him and
his wife alone. Anjali starts warming up to Ram, when Dev shows up -
this Dev is not the poor Dev that Anjali once knew, this Dev is a
multi-millionaire, scheming, and devious, and a Dev who will try to win

A charming film.
I enjoyed the
melodious background song (Dhadkan-Dhadkan). I also love the song with
the three of them together. I love the classy dance that Mahima
Choudhary does. As far as the acting, Akshay Kumar does not have the
reserve talent to emote. Shilpa Shetty and Mahima are the talented bunch
with Shilpa Shetty being the more talented and versatile. After I saw
"Rishtey" which I enjoyed watching her and Anil Kapoor in some good
comedy after a long time.She looks absolutely ravishing in the Wedding
scene, and the scene itself is very poignant and tastefully done. The
movie was enjoyable forgiven the fact that all Hindi Movies are laced
with cliches that are patented creations of the Script writers that
bring as much twist to a story as a hurricane in Hawai.
