Josh (Devanagari: जोश) is a 2000 Indian action drama film co-written and directed by Mansoor Khan. The film stars Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai, Chandrachur Singh and Sharad Kapoor in the lead roles. The Hindi language film, with occasional Konkani[3], was set and filmed in Goa.[4] The film is set in the 1980s amidst the backdrop of real estate deals in a [fictional] town in Goa.[5]
The film marks comeback of director Mansoor Khan after a hiatus of five years. It is written by Neeraj Vora and Aatish Kapadia based on the story by Mansoor Khan, with screenplay by Neeraj Vora, Mansoor Khan and dialogues by Nidhi Tuli. The film was produced by Ganesh Jain, Ratan Jain and Balwant Singh. The film was released on 9 June 2000 and was distributed by United Seven Creations. The film earned a total of Rs 7.83 crore (US$2.6 million) nett, was the fifth highest-grossing film of 2000 in India.[6]
The film is a remake of the famous musical West Side Story (1961) .[7]
The whole situation is unprecedented in this town, which gets all the more intriguing when Rahul Sharma comes across a secret about Dias' past; a secret that will change their lives forever and that, which leads to a death (Prakash Sharma). He comes to know that Max and Shirley Dias were actually the illegitimate children of Alberto Vasco, the founder of the town. Alberto Vasco was also the largest landowner in the town. Rahul wants to reveal this to Shirley Dias in a letter but due to circumstances it falls in the hands of Prakash Sharma. Prakash Sharma plans to murder Max Dias, to get his father's [Alberto Vasco] lands worth Rs. 20 lakhs. This leads to fight sequence between both, where Max Dias accidentally shoots Prakash Sharma while defending himself. Max Dias is arrested by police and his trial puts a rift between Shirley Dias and Rahul Sharma. Max Dias is about to go to the gallows, but the truth is finally revealed by Rahul Sharma and he acknowledges his brother's mistake. Finally, Rahul Sharma and Shirley Dias are married, Max Dias too marries his love interest Rosanne.

Plot
The film takes place in the early 1980s, in the fictional town of Vasco in Goa.[8] There exist two rival street gangs called the Bichhoos (Scorpions in Hindi), who are Hindu migrants and the Eagles, who are Catholic Christians. Bichoo gang's leader is Prakash Sharma (Sharad Kapoor), while the Eagles are led by Max Dias (Shah Rukh Khan). They are sworn enemies; they fight, run, chase and beat. But they are usually stopped from fights by Father Jacob or the town Inspector (Sharat Saxena). One day Prakash Sharma's brother Rahul Sharma (Chandrachur Singh), who is a master-chef working in Mumbai, comes to visit Vasco after two years. Rahul Sharma loves Goa, the more he sees of it and as he tours around Vasco, he meets Shirley Dias (Aishwarya Rai), the twin sister of Max Dias and he falls in love with her straightaway. Knowing about Eagles and Bicchhoo gang rivalry, Rahul Sharma keeps his mouth closed. He opens a pastry shop 'Treat House' and settles in Vasco. Famous composer A. R. Rahman was signed in as the music composer first, but he opted out, due to time constraints and other commitments.[12] After Rahman opted out, Mansoor Khan roped in Anu Malik to complete the music fast, and release the film on time. Critical reception
Planet Bollywood gave the film 7.5/10 and wrote "Mansoor [Khan] succeeds as a director in keeping the movie fast and interesting, though it is the characters who come out much stronger than the movie".[17] Taran Adarsh from Bollywood Hungama noted "On the whole, Josh is a well made film with great performances and a hit musical score. Storyline
Shah Rukh Khan and Sharad Kapoor are the leaders of the two rival gangs.
Aishwarya Rai is Shah Rukh Khan's twin sister. Shah Rukh is in love
with Priya Gill. Chandrachur Singh is Sharad Kapoor's younger brother
who studies in a catering college in Bombay. He comes to Goa to visit
his brother and plans to go back and start a restaurant there. He sees
Aishwarya and falls in love with her. Chandrachur gives up the idea of
going back to Bombay and opens a bakery in Goa. When Shah Rukh comes to
know about the romance between Aishwarya and Chandrachur, the fight
between the gang turns more violent. How the conflict is resolved is the

Love it a lot
I really liked Josh. There's not a boring minute in it.
Shahrukh as Max is extremely charismatic and sexy. Aish is very nice in the role of an ordinary girl with minimum make-up. Chandrachur Singh's character, Rahul, was a great contrast to Max's predatory nature, providing the moral for the story, and Chandrachur fits the role to perfection with his kind and intelligent face. The characters of Rosanna and her pudgy boyfriend also added to the story. To cut it short, I loved all the characters and loved the setting.
I'd say the film has its own atmosphere and just transports you into this provincial city of Vasco where the two gangs, Eagles and Bicchoos (Scorpions) are vying for domination. It's all very colorful since it's in Goa and the songs are great. So I highly recommend it -- you'll not be bored.
