Indian is a 2001 Indian Hindi crime drama film directed by N. Maharajan and starring Sunny Deol, Shilpa Shetty, Raj Babbar and Mukesh Rishi. A remake of Tamil film Vallarasu starring Vijayakanth, the film had dialogues written by Sanjay Masoom. It opened on 26 October 2001 to excellent collections.

Plot
Raj Shekhar Azad (Sunny Deol) is an honest Deputy Commissioner of Police whose sole intention is to wipe out corruption. From his name to his aim, emerges unflinching patriotism. But for every such patriot, there is an equally motivated terrorist.Waseem Khan (Mukesh Rishi), a dreaded terrorist, is aided in his mission by Raj's father-in-law (Raj Babbar), an influential industrialist (Danny Denzongpa) and several police officers.
Raj's path is laden with hurdles, but he leaves no stone unturned, within the realm of law, to wage a war against the evil doers. The film is notable for the Sunny Deol's portrayal DCP Azad. The sublime toughness and solidity that the acclaimed actor manages to bring to the character of Rajshekhar Azad in his trademark sedate style is the high point of the film. Raj Babbar too comes of in with a powerful performance though his role disappears within the first hour. The peerless Danny Dengzongpa, is powerful in his portrayal of Singhania Saab in the film.

Storyline
A brave Indian policeman named Raj beats up and then arrests a Muslim
terrorist by the name of Khan. This gets him promoted, and he is
congratulated by none other than his father-in-law, who is also a very
high ranking policeman. Then all of a sudden, Raj finds out that many
policemen would like to see Khan go free. He discusses this issue with
his father-in-law, and to his surprise, does not find any support from
him. Disagreements and arguments ensue, and as a result, his
father-in-law gets killed. The Police suspect Raj of killing him, they
begin the process of arresting him, he runs away, while Khan is all set
to get freed to do whatever he likes. Written by

Great action movie!
Indian is truly one of
Sunny Deol's best action movies ever, as he shows more patriotism again,
but here, he is a tough and clever cop (modern version of
Chandrashekhar Azad). He nabs a terrorist, figures out the treacherous
games, and one by one, he finishes the baddies. This movie is NOT at all
anti-Pak as some believe as they did NOT understand the real essence of
the film. However, the film exploits corruption in India itself in
police, rich people, etc. who would stoop down so low to be traitors for
money by helping terrorists. If more Indian cops were like Rajshekhar
Azad (Sunny Deol), then corruption would be so much less. Our Jat hero
goes beyond limits to save the country from deadly attacks and is
honored by all good. Watch this film with an open mind, and you will
like it. This is another personal favorite of mine, and even today, I
still love this action movie. Sunny, you rock! Hindustan Zindabad! Jai
Hind! Maa Tujhe Salaam! I loved the scene where he saves his 4 sidekicks
from the baddies by bashing so many goons at once and also when he
roars about being Indian after killing the terrorist. 15/10!
