Family (also known as Family – Ties of Blood) is a 2006 Indian vigilante film directed by Rajkumar Santoshi. The film features Amitabh Bachchan,Aryeman Ramsay, Akshay Kumar and Bhoomika Chawla in lead roles. It was released on 12 January 2006.
Whilst helping the innocent, Shekhar finds Khan's nephew fatally wounded and tries to take him to the hospital. Viren witnesses this and mistakenly shoots Shekhar instead of Khan's nephew. Soon enough, Viren brutally murders Khan's nephew and flees the theatre. Wounded Shekhar tries to return home however he is attacked by Viren's car, leading to his death. Aryan returns home and realises Shekhar has been murdered. Together, Aryan and his group of friends form a gang and kidnap Viren's family including Abhir. However, Abhir escapes and reaches to his father. Aryan tries not to do harm to any of his family member as he knows how precious they are, though Viren's wife suddenly dies when Abhir accidentally shoots her which was targeted for Aryan. Viren believes Aryan is responsible for this, Aryan calls Viren to meet him at the same place where Viren killed Shekhar and also the police. But the police decide to help Viren, thus Aryan's plan fails.
Afterwards a changed Viren decides to end it all & surrender to the police. But the police comes out with the intention of killing him on behest of his own son Abhir.But Viren escapes by killing them. Khan enters, As Viren murders Khan, Abhir tries to shoot his father but instead Viren kills Abhir. Aryan leaves the scene, and as Viren demands Aryan to kill him now, Aryan ends the film on a note on karma, and explains his punishment is not death, but life as he has nothing to live for. In the end, Aryan becomes a cook like his late brother and him and his friends start to work in the same canteen Shekhar used to work in.
The film's score and songs were composed by Ram Sampath and the lyrics were penned by Sameer.
The official soundtrack contains seven songs and two reprise versions.
The song "Janam Janam" performed by Various Artists, was not used in the
film.

Plot
Viren Sahai (Amitabh Bachchan), is an underworld don based in Mumbai. His son Abhir (Sushant Singh) is spoilt and believes he can do anything due to his father's power. When Viren's rival Khan (Kader Khan) attacks Abhir, Viren demands revenge. Viren receives foolproof information that Khan will be hidden at a local cinema theatre on an particular date. The plot then moves onto the life of a simple cook, Shekhar Bhatia (Akshay Kumar) who is married to Dr. Kavita (Bhumika Chawla). Shekhar lives with his parents, wife and his younger brother Aryan (Aryeman Ramsay). When Aryan runs away from home, Shekhar searches the whole city to find him. Storyline
Slacker Aryan Bhatia's
life is turned upside down when his brother, Shekhar, is killed by a
hoodlum, Virendra Sahi. Unable to get the corrupt Mumbai police to
apprehend him, he decides to abduct the entire Sahi family, hold them
hostage until Virendra surrenders to him. He and six of his friends
obtain firearms, successfully abduct the Sahi family, hold them in a
room. They even get Virendra to negotiate their release within 24 hours.
But Aryan grossly underestimates Virendra's connections, reportedly
from 'Sadak' to 'Sansad'. Soon, not only he, his friends, and the
remainder of his family will face Virendra's wrath.

Bollywood Fun
Family is a hugely
entertaining example of Bollywood's ability to extract ideas from
American movies and turn them into something distinctly Indian. The film
deftly extracts elements from American action blockbusters and expertly
blends them with the comedy, romance and music usually associated with
Bollywood.
The film follows the lives of two very different families and examines the tragic consequences that arise when they accidentally become intertwined. Despite the fact that the film involves murder, kidnapping and various other tragedies, it somehow manages to remain remarkably upbeat.
A real highlight of the film is the cast. I have always thought that Amitabh Bachchan vaguely resembles Al Pacino and as the cruel gangster Viren Sahi, he gets an opportunity to do his best Pacino impression. Mr Bachchan makes a pretty hilarious gangster, looking vaguely ridiculous with blond highlights in his hair and a collection of suits that Liberace would find vulgar. While he may not be particularly convincing during the action sequences, Amitabh Bachchan comes into his own during the more dramatic moments and proves yet again that he is the most entertaining actor working in India today.
The ubiquitous Ashkay Kumar plays Shekhar, Viren Sahi's polar opposite. If Amitabh Bachchan is the Indian Al Pacino, then Ashkay Kumar is the Bollywood version of David Hasselhoff - an all singing and dancing entertainment train wreck. The scene in which Ashkay performs a hip hop number (complete with bling diamanté sunglasses) on the top of a temple has to be seen to be believed. Aryeman debuts as Shekhar's brother, Aryan. It's good to see that nepotism is alive and well in India as Aryeman also happens to be the producer's son. Surprisingly, Aryeman is an unexpectedly good actor and manages to be convincing in the film's most demanding role.
In addition to fabulous musical segments, which take place everywhere from the above mentioned temple to a porn site in cyberspace, Family also contains several memorable fight sequences and a couple of well constructed car chases. A scene in which Aryan abseils down a skyscraper before swinging through a glass window would make Michael Bay green with envy.
Bollywood films are not for everyone, the mixing of genres can be disconcerting and the long running times may seem unnecessary. However, if you are the mood to try something different, Family is a good place for western viewers to start.
