Kalyug (English: Modern Era) is a 2005 Indian action thriller film based on the pornographic film industry.[1] The film was directed by Mohit Suri and produced by Mahesh Bhatt. It introduces actor Kunal Khemu, in his debut film as an adult actor.[2][3] It also stars Emraan Hashmi, Smilie Suri and Amrita Singh.[4][5] Kalyug released on 9 December 2005. Patcy N of Rediff.com called it an "just about average" film.[6] It featured the fictional porn website indiapasssion.com which inspired a real website of the same name.[7]
When Renuka arrives, she finds out about the untimely death, and wants to return, but ticket reservation force her to stay with Kunal for a week. It is this week that changes their lives, for they fall in love and get married. During their first intimate night together, porn-website creator Simi Roy (Amrita Singh) and her partner Johnny (Ashutosh Rana) record them and turn them into porn-stars. Renuka can't take the embarrassment and commits suicide. Kunal is then arrested by police for illegal porn online. Kunal proves himself innocent, and decides to track down Simi Roy and her team and get revenge. He comes across Ali (Emraan Hashmi) a modern-day punk, who runs an adults only shop. In his shop, Kunal sees a magazine featuring a pornstar Kunal had seen on the same website where his and Renuka's video was. He uses Ali's help to track down the girl. Kunal and Ali track the girl down in a bar where she is a singer, suddenly Kunal finds a young girl being held hostage and beats up the bodyguards but he gets hit by Simi Roy's car. The next day, Kunal overhears Simi fighting with her abusive daughter Tanya about being drunk and doing sexual activities with her girlfriend Jessica. Kunal then asks Simi about the blue film porn website but Simi lies to him and explains that she has nothing to do with it. The girl is revealed to be Annie (Deepal Shaw) and reveals to Kunal that in her hometown Johnny and his friend Vick had killed everyone and forced her to run away. Kunal and Ali track down Johnny and his goons and start a furious fight and Kunal kills Johnny but Ali dies after being killed by Johnny, before dying Ali reveals that Simi Roy is the main mastermind behind the pornography website and also runs the red light district. Kunal asks Tanya for help and in return he would help her ruin Simi's life, Simi who is watching the TV seeing her own daughter on her porn website and is approached by Kunal and Tanya where Tanya shoots her mother several times. Kunal is free of charges and starts a new life with Annie.
The soundtrack was released on 29 October 2005. Raju Singh composed the film score while the songs featured in the Soundtrack were composed by Anu Malik, Faisal Rafi, Rohail Hyatt, Jal, Goher Mumtaz and Mithoon. The track "Aadat" was reused from Jal's album of the same name, with music being recreated by Mithoon.[10] According to the Indian trade website Box Office India, with around 14,00,000 units sold, this film's soundtrack album was the year's twelfth highest-selling.[11]

Plot
18 years ago, the Darr family, consisting of Pushkaran (Amitabh Bhattacharjee) and his son, Kunal (Kunal Khemu), were forced to leave Kashmir by terrorists, who had forced thousands of other Kashmiri Pandits to be mere refugees in their very own country. Pushkaran and Kunal re-locate to Bombay, where they live in a small room. This is where Kunal grows up, and gets a job at a gym. Then one day, the police knock on his door, informing him that his father had lost his hold from a crowded local train, fallen, and instantly killed. A devastated Kunal arranges his father's funeral, and before he could reconcile to living alone, his relatives contact him from Jammu, informing him that his father had promised to look after a young woman named Renuka (Smiley Suri). The film was initially titled 'Blue Film' however the title was later changed to 'Kalyug'.[8] Sunny Leone was originally offered the lead role, but due to her demanding $1 million for the role, director Mohit Suri retreated.Home Media

Promising Theme... Disappointing movie
A newly wedded couple
caught on camera during their honeymoon in a hotel. Their porn videos
are released on the net... The girl commits suicide and the guy wants
revenge on the people... A movie that deals with Pornography, which
according to its promoters is a 1.56 billion dollar. Exceptionally
brilliant music--- Jal's Aadat and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan's Jiya Dhadak
Dhadak. All seemed so well and perfect that anybody, just like me, would
get motivated to watch with this movie which deals with the pornography
industry. So one fine Saturday, I get the DVD, play it and guess
what??? BANG! The movie's a complete disaster! Its not like the movie's
that bad as I felt about it but its just that the writer (Mahesh Bhatt)
and the director (Mohit Suri) needed to do a lot more homework than what
they actually did while making this movie. This movie could have been
great had the script not have so many loops and holes in it.
I mean picture this- A guy who is so poor that he works in a gym as a trainer and gets such a low salary that he lives in a one-room flat. After getting married to the girl he falls in love with (whose entry itself is very stupid), he cannot to afford to spend one night in a hotel and his friend actually pays for his stay with his wife for their honeymoon but bang bang! When the guy gets trapped in the porn controversy and is labelled a porn star, he has enough cash to get himself a lawyer and guess what? He can go to Switzerland (Mr. Director, care to explain how?_ on his own expense and after reaching there he hires a guy Ali (Emraan Hashmi) who's a pimp (yes, he has enough cash to hire the guy).
Other than that, Deepal Shaw is another pain and it only feels great to see she's not getting any more work. Her story of how she became a porn star is funny as hell! Ashutosh Rana is completely wasted and so are the beautiful numbers, Aadat and Jiya Dhadhak Dhadhak and for die hard Jal fans (like me) it was way too irritating to see Mr. Bhatt waste another good track in a shady film.
Other than that, Amrita Singh carries the film entirely on her shoulders with a lot of help from the music. Kunal Khemu is a good actor but for some reason, just doesn't have that much needed charm which is needed in a leading man.
Mohit Suri's sister is there because she's Mohit Suri's sister even if she does look like a man who needs to shave! Wonder why they took her! Emraan's character was forcefully pushed into the script (just like Shahrukh's was in Shakti) and it very much shows on screen. However, its Emraan whose entry adds that zing to the movie and makes it watchable till the end. Had they worked harder on the script before getting the movie rolling and had they chosen someone else to play Kunal Darr's character, this movie could have made it to the list of some of the greatest movies produced by the Bhatt camp. A great plot badly written with mixed performances and great music end up making an overall average movie which you wouldn't regret nor cherish watching.
