Before marrying Gulzar, Rakhi had married a Bangla film director named Ajay Biswas. But two years later, Rakhi's first marriage broke up. After the marriage broke up, the closeness between Gulzar and Rakhi increased. Rakhi was fond of Gulzar Sahab's multi-talented personality, while Gulzar was a fan of Rakhi's beauty.
Love and affection developed between the two, and finally, on May 15, 1973, Rakhi and Gulzar got married. The wedding was held with great fanfare. Big stars from the film industry attended the wedding. Everyone wished the newlyweds well for their future.
In December 1973, Rakhi gave birth to a daughter, Meghana. But about a year after the daughter's birth, Rakhi and Gulzar decided to separate. But it didn't happen that easily. Before that, a lot had happened. So much that it was nothing short of a nightmare for Rakhi.
Even before the marriage, Gulzar had made a condition in front of Rakhi that she would not work in films after marriage. Gulzar believed that married women should not work in films. At that time, Rakhi had also accepted Gulzar's condition.
But she had the hope that if not someone else, then at least Gulzar would let her work in his films. But that did not happen. Despite Rakhi's request, Gulzar did not cast her in any of his films. Although Rakhi had no shortage of film offers despite the marriage.

Gulzar was in Kashmir at that time. He was shooting his film Andhi there. Along with the entire unit, Rakhi also went to Kashmir with Gulzar. After completing the shooting for one night, the entire team of the film was partying. The hero of the film, Sanjeev Kumar, had drunk a bit too much that day.
Sanjeev was so drunk that when the heroine Suchitra Sen asked him to go to her room, Sanjeev Kumar grabbed her arm. Sanjeev Kumar said that no one would go anywhere now. Everyone would stay here and have fun. Suchitra Sen was completely taken aback by Sanjeev Kumar's behavior. She was furious with Sanjeev Kumar.
But Sanjeev Kumar was so drunk that it didn't matter to him. He was not ready to let go of Suchitra Sen. Tears came to Suchitra Sen's eyes. When Gulzar came to rescue Suchitra Sen after learning about the whole matter, he came to rescue her.
And somehow they got rid of Sanjeev Kumar from Sushitra Sen. Gulzar himself went to leave Sushitra Sen in her room. When Gulzar was returning to his room after leaving Sushitra Sen, Rakhi saw him coming out of there.
Since Rakhi did not know what had happened a little while ago, she found it very bad to see her husband coming out of the room of another woman at night. Rakhi asked Gulzar what he was doing in Sushitra Sen's room at that time. Gulzar tried to explain the whole matter to Rakhi.
But Rakhi's anger did not subside. She was angry that Gulzar had left Sushitra Sen in her room. Gulzar got angry with Rakhi over this matter. And he slapped Rakhi hard. That slap was no less than a shock for Rakhi.
Now comes the next morning. Rakhi was still in shock due to Gulzar's slap at night. At that time, she came to Kashmir in search of renowned filmmaker Yash Chopra, who was looking for her and Gulzar. In fact, Yash Chopra wanted to cast Rakhi in his next film sometime. And for this, Yash Chopra had to get permission from Gulzar Sahab.
Yash Chopra came to the hotel and met Gulzar and Rakhi. He told them about his film. Before he asked Gulzar for permission to cast Rakhi in his film, Rakhi said, "I want to work in this film."
Obviously, Rakhi's statement about working in the film, without any discussion, did not please Gulzar at all. That day, Gulzar and Rakhi decided to part ways. However, both also decided that they would not take divorce, because the divorce would have a bad impact on their daughter Meghna.
After coming to Mumbai, both started living separately. But even after separating, their relationship remained like husband and wife. That means, Rakhi may have started working in films again. But Gulzar still considered them as husband and wife.
In an interview, Rakhi said that Gulzar often used to call her and say, "I have invited some friends over. But there is no food at my house. You should quickly make jhinga ki and send it. Since Gulzar likes my hand-made kheer very much, she keeps ordering it every day. Even though they don't live together, they have never separated from each other."
Today is Rakhi Ji's birthday. Rakhi Ji was born on August 15, 1947.
